= it's been a long time coming =Oh.
My.
God.
GOLD!
CHIJ St. Theresa's Convent's Angklung Ensemble's 1st Gold in
10 YEARS!
the last time we had a Gold was in 1999 so yeah. oh my god. we screamed when we heard the news. never in my dreams did i EVER believe we were that lucky. and words CANNOT describe the excitement and joy I'm feeling right now. i seem to get into a fangirl squeal whenever i think of it.
We never thought we'd would actually get a Gold with 99.9% of them looking glum and bored. Glum and bored playing MAMA MIA! wah piang eh... our girls can kill you sometimes, but what they really needed was a tonne of encouragement.
you know, just 20mins before their performance, they just killed us with noisy clinking and klanking of the angklungs, nervous stiff faces, and off tempo playing. i thought "great... they better be just kidding". thank god they were. they outperformed their standards; stopping in time, bopping and bouncing and swaying with the beat and melody of Mama Mia and Faridah's original: Gamelanesque. And Anusha the drummer was impeccably perfect with her tempo.
there was one thing i noticed about the different conductors.
Ms Faridah's 4 schools had tiers of angklungs in each student's hand, a Gendang player and a percussionist.
There was one skinny malay conductor. 5 schools i think. i dunno what happened ok, but when you watch them, they rock socks so much and all they ever got were bronzes and silver. HUH? though his students had only an angkulng or two each. and his song pieces were immaculate! he did the olympics opening theme and many others that just captures your heart and gives you goose bumps, in a good way.
all in all, with 15 secondary schools and 2 JCs ( MI and NJC) there were 1 Gold with Honours, 3 Golds, many Silvers and a handful of Bronzes (much to my surprise). thankfully no C.O.Ps. were given or that wouldve have met you suck big time. O.O
I'm so proud of Ms Faridah and that principle who hired her as Angklung Instructor. Faridah certainly knows what it takes to get that gold. 2 out of that 3 Golds were hers =)
ps: i wish i had pictures to display our pride and joy but they didnt allow cameras or recording devices. besides, my phone... sigh my phone..... oh siiighhhh.....
